relationship started off years ago with Stankewich Drywall, Painting & Decorating bidding on their projects, but now “we’ve done so much work together that now they’ll just come to us directly,” Mark says. “They have that kind of confidence in us,” he says. “That means a lot. We don’t take that lightly.” Moving forward, Mark says the goal is to continue fostering the trust of that client and clients like them. The company would love to do more high-end projects like the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School, but they are also happy to take on other kinds of projects as well. Their most important objective, Mark says, is to stay active enough that they can retain their current employees. “We’ll take jobs as they come,” he says. “We’ll do whatever comes at us. We would like to get into more commercial stuff, but at the same time, we don’t want to turn down any residential jobs. We have such great employees and we want to keep them busy because we don’t want to lose them.” On that note, Mark says Stankewich Drywall, Painting & Decorating does have room to grow and add team members, but when it comes to their team they value quality over quantity. “I’d like to keep the company smaller and employ higher quality workers, rather than be bigger and be forced to settle for whoever we can find off the street,” he concludes. “We like our employees to know every trade and how to do it. We want them to be able to be their own supervisors. We don’t want to have a supervisor running around supervising a lot of employees who don’t know what they’re doing. If everyone knows exactly what they have to do, I feel that makes for a better environment. I feel like our clients recognize that and that’s why they keep coming back.” JUNE 2025
