Stankewich Drywall, Painting & Decorating is a longstanding family business based in Swan River, Manitoba. Since forming almost 30 years ago, they have built and maintained an enduring industry reputation for delivering quality work to satisfied clients in both the residential and commercial sectors. Mark Stankewich, the second-generation owner of the company, has been committed to maintaining and building on that reputation ever since he took over. “We’ve been around for a long time,” Mark says. “We’ve worked with quite a few contractors and we’ve gotten in their good books, and that means a lot to us. Our reputation is very important. It’s taken a long time to build, and I never want to do anything that would risk compromising it.” The company was originally founded in 1997 by Dwayne Stankewich, Mark’s father and a seasoned veteran of the painting industry. Mark personally grew up around business, working there in the summers while he was in school. After university, he came back and started working there full-time, eventually taking over in 2010. For much of the company’s history, while Mark was working in the summers, they mainly took on small residential projects and exterior renovations. When Mark took over, his vision was to start taking on projects that were larger in scope and complexity than what they had done before – and that’s exactly what has happened. Under Mark’s leadership, the company has done a lot more commercial buildings, a lot more new homes, and even some apartments. In the process they have formed a longstanding repeat relationship with local contractors – “whenever they have a new project around here, they tend to come to us,” Mark says. JUNE 2025
