Kays Contracting is a full-service excavation company specializing in commercial and civil work. Since forming in 2006, they have proudly served British Columbia’s beautiful West Kootenay region from their home base in Nelson. Over the past two decades, they have planned and constructed vital sewer and water infrastructure for municipalities and resorts, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the resource and tech sectors, as well as businesses, highways, and homes. Growing up, he worked for a construction company that was first founded by his grandfather, and later taken over by his father and uncle. “I grew up on an acreage, and the shop for the construction company was probably 100 meters from my back door,” he recalls. “There are some pretty comical photos of me at about four years old running a 45-tonne excavator by myself.” Jeff’s first official job was sweeping floors in that shop as a kid so he could earn money to buy a dirt bike.
