JULY 2025 and demolition contractor.” This significant undertaking demonstrated the company’s commitment to recycling and efficient project delivery, further strengthening their relationship with BC Housing and regional authorities. Joe attributes much of the company’s strength to long-standing relationships – with clients, vendors, and employees alike. Brand loyalty runs deep. “We’re Hitachi loyal through and through,” he laughs. “If one of them gets nicked, it’s going to be orange – the unmistakable Hitachi color.” That loyalty extends to fuel suppliers, insurance brokers, and attachment vendors. “They answer the phone when we call. That matters more than saving a few bucks.” Joe has worked with many of the same vendors since the company’s inception. “We don’t play them against each other. They know we’re loyal, and they treat us accordingly. If I call on a Sunday, they know it’s an emergency – and they’ll answer.” The culture inside Scott Contracting & Excavating mirrors this loyalty and trust. Many employees have stayed for more than a decade, some over 20 years. “I couldn’t find a company where people took care of their people. So, I built one,” Joe explains. One of the first non-union firms in the area to offer full medical and dental benefits, Scott Contracting also pays above union rates. “People stay because they’re heard, they’re valued, and they’re looked after,” Joe says. The company provides flexible schedules for employees with children, mental health support, and fosters a tight-knit, team-based culture. “We call it the Scott family – and that’s not just talk. It’s real.” Looking ahead, Joe sees growth not only in size but in capability. While the team is already wellversed in crane work, the next step is to invest in high-reach excavators capable of handling taller buildings – especially as the company expands into Alberta and urban centers like Vancouver and Edmonton. “Right now, we’re capable of most things in BC,” Joe says. “But buildings are getting taller. Highreach machines are next.” His benchmarks for the company are Ontario’s largest demolition companies – he believes Scott Contracting & Excavating is just as capable as those companies, they just don’t have as many employees yet. “But we’re getting there.”
