All the best, The Editorial Team We will keep adding business units that enhance our offering and separate us from our competition. “ ” Editor From The Dear Reader, Welcome to the latest issue of Construction Source Canada, the magazine that highlights the best in building and building products across the country. With this edition, our last of 2025, we were excited to look all over at Canada, at a range of developers, builders, and building services providers with operations spanning British Columbia to Ontario and every province in between. Goldeye Construction, the company on our cover, is a full service general contracting company based in London, Ontario. Since officially forming almost 20 years ago, they have built a trusted name in the region for delivering quality workmanship on tight deadlines. To learn how they built that reputation, we spoke with company founder and director Dave Rempel. He highlighted the advantages of having a larger crew – where most framing companies can frame between 25-to-30 houses per year, they frame anywhere from 600-to-700 homes per year. That capability allows them to mobilize quickly, service clients efficiently, and maintain a very strict standard of quality. According to Dave, “the three big things for builders are ‘servicing, schedule, and quality,’” and he’s built Goldeye into an industry leader by ticking all three of those boxes. Also featured in this issue is Facet Custom Builders, based in Cumberland, British Columbia. They are a custom home building and renovation company led by Silas Straathof and Drew Henderson. Drew joined the company early on and became a partner three years ago – we spoke to him about the company’s rapid evolution into one of the top custom builders in the Comox Valley, and about the hard work that’s gone into maintaining that position. We also highlighted some of the company’s recent projects, including their largest project to date, a major renovation on an archeologically sensitive site right beside the ocean. Drew talked about the challenges that went into designing a plan there that could actually be built, while still delivering an outcome worthy of the site. “It was a really unique property that warranted a special house on it,” he told us. “We all felt a responsibility to do something really amazing.” Then there’s Priority Builders, an Edmonton-based home renovation and remodelling company. On every project, their goal is to provide clients with “the best possible experience,” according to Sean Walford, owner and general manager. We talked to Sean about their process for achieving that goal. We also talked about their vision of becoming the city’s “number one renovation company.” For more stories like that, of companies all over the country – companies dedicated to services and committed to pushing the boundaries of quality – just keep flipping the pages. Until next year – have a happy holiday season, and thank you for reading!

Service, schedule, and quality
Goldeye Construction is a general service contracting company based in London, Ontario. Since officially forming almost 20 years ago, they have built a trusted name in the region for delivering quality workmanship on tight deadlines. Today, they are company well known for their ability to not only “get the job done,” but “do it safely and effectively,” according to Dave Rempel, founder and owner of the company. “Our experienced team is dedicated to delivering high-quality work and ensuring customer satisfaction on every project, big or small,” Dave says. “With our expertise and commitment to excellence, clients can trust us to bring their vision to life, on time and within budget.” Dave first started framing in 2002 after being introduced to the trade by a friend of his. He quickly realized he enjoyed building things with his hands, and after four years of doing it for another company he decided he could do it for himself – so he started Goldeye Construction in 2006, and he “never looked back.” Since then, he’s grown the company slowly but sustainably, and that growth has included adding staff as well as expanding their service offering. Today, Goldeye Construction is a full-service general contracting company, specializing in new builds, wood framing, prefabricated floor and wall panels, crane lifting, zoom boom rentals, and complete construction projects. In terms of size and scope, their work runs the gamut – they’ll take on everything from covered porches, to home renovations, brand new custom homes, multi-residential townhomes, mid-rise apartment building, restaurants, small commercial plazas, to large-scale commercial buildings. The company operates their own plant in London where they DECEMBER 2025

manufacture prefabricated floor and wall panels, so there’s virtually no project they can’t deliver efficiently. “We do it all, so long as it’s wood,” Dave explains. “We don’t care about the size – we’ll take it on and we’ll get it done.” These days, Dave estimates that about 75 per cent of Goldeye’s work comes from home builders in Southwestern Ontario, and the majority of their projects take place within an hour-and-a-half of the city of London. Another 15 per cent of the company’s work comes from general contractors doing other types of building, and the last 15 per cent comes from home owners who approach Dave and his team directly. On the homebuilder side, Dave believes they get so much work “because we can service builders really well.” “Whether they need one framing crew or they need 15, we can make that happen,” he says. “We’ve got our own window and door crews, our own basement framing crews. We also have own site supers to manage the job site for the client.” “Let’s say you’re a builder building a subdivision of homes, and you need eight framing crews a month to frame houses,” he elaborates. “We’ll put one of our own crew leads or managers on the site to manage those eight framing crews with your site super. That means that site super doesn’t have to remember which crew frame which house. If there’s a problem on a site, he doesn’t have to try DECEMBER 2025
to remember which crew was involved and figure out how to get them back there to help. All he has to do is tell our crew lead, ‘Hey, on lot 52, we have this issue. Can you take care of it?’ And boom, we take care of it.” Additionally, Goldeye Construction has the manpower required to be fast-acting and to mobilize quickly. Their team includes about 40 direct employees, as well as about 25 crews of regular subcontractors – meaning they are managing between 120 and 150 people at any given time. With a team that size, Dave explains, “we can fit your work in our schedule no matter what.” “If you call us on a Tuesday and say you need a house framed on a Monday, we can most likely figure that out,” he says. “With all the people we have available to us, there’s a good chance that we can push some things around and fit you in.” That kind of adaptability and responsiveness, Dave adds, is not all that common in the framing industry. “We get lots of calls from clients who have booked a framing crew, but then last minute that framing crew has backed out because it turns out they’ve taken on too much work,” he explains. “That’s extremely common. We often hear ‘My framer was supposed to start on Thursday, but he just called and said he’s actually going to be two weeks out because he’s delayed on a job. Can you start sooner?’ Our response is usually along the lines of: ‘We’ll have a crew for you there in three days.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
“Because we have so much manpower, we can shuffle people around and take on work that most framers can’t,” he continues. “The average framer crew frames between 25-to-30 houses per year. Our company frames anywhere from 600-to-700 homes per year. We are in a total different market because we can handle as much work as we can.” Goldeye Construction can also deliver that work to a really high standard of quality. After every project is completed, they send a quality manager through with a rigorous checklist, they thoroughly review everything, and if there any issues they are rectified within 24 hours. “The three big things for builders are ‘servicing, schedule, and quality,’” Dave explains. “We tick all three of those boxes really well.” As a result, Goldeye Construction has been able to build some extremely strong and long-lasting relationships with customers. According to Dave, some of those relationships go all the way back to when the company first started, or close to it. Many of the Goldeye’s internal relationships are also longstanding. The company has a lot of new people – they are consistently growing, and Dave considers it an imperative to train and teach the next generation of framers – but they also have a group of “core people” that have been there over a decade. Dave largely credits that loyalty to the fact that they are paid well and always paid on time. Additionally, he credits Goldeye’s consistency of work. “They see plenty of other framers not working DECEMBER 2025 Servicing Ontario’s Business Industry Since 1994! during the winter, because they don’t have a client base big enough to sustain them through the whole year,” he explains. “Whereas they know at Goldeye, they’ll have steady work year-round. You can ask any one of my guys that’s been with me longer than a couple of years, they’ll all say, ‘I’ve never had a day off just because we didn’t have work.’ I think that’s a big thing. People want steady paycheques.” When it comes to the subcontractors, meanwhile, Dave says Goldeye’s relationships also tend to be longstanding. He says they have been working with many of their subcontractor crews for around a decade. He believes they earn their loyalty the same way they earn the loyalty of their staff – by paying them well, paying them on time, and keeping them busy. “I’ve always done my darndest to make sure that I get out there and do enough sales so that we have enough work to not only keep our in-house staff busy, but also to keep our extended sub crews busy,” he says. “I understand that I’m not only providing food for my employees, but I’m also providing food for my subcontractors, their employees, and their families as well. I take that really seriously.” Lastly, when it comes to suppliers, Dave says the relationships are just as loyal and longstanding, and Dave says he takes maintaining those relationships just as seriously. One examples of a longstanding supplier would be Wise Line Tools, an Ontario-based company with locations in Aylmer and Tillsonburg. They THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
are a company that services both individuals and professionals, and they offer everything from powerful electric drills to durable hand tools – whatever their client needs to get the job done, whatever that job may be. Their tools are built to last and designed for ultimate performance, and their service is knowledgeable, personable, and reliable – which are all the qualities Goldeye prioritizes in all their partners. Moving forward, Dave’s goal is to continue growing Goldeye Construction, and he intends to do that by building and maintaining relationships across the board, with all stakeholders – but especially with clients. Dave admits there are a lot of smaller framing companies out there with less overhead, which means they can be more competitive on pricing – but they can’t offer the same level of service and they can’t be as responsive and fast-acting. By building and maintaining relationships with clients, Dave and his team are showing them that. “Success comes from building relationships,” Dave says. “If you can develop good client relationships and maintain those relationships, I think that’s the key to longevity.” “If you have those strong relationships, then longterm it doesn’t matter how many smaller crews or smaller companies are biting at your industry trying to drive the prices down,” he concludes. “You will consistently get paid more money to do the same jobs based on your track record and the strength of the relationship you have with the client. That’s why we’ve been so successful for so long.” DECEMBER 2025

Facet Custom Builders is a custom home building and renovation company based in Cumberland, British Columbia. They are a company founded with the goal of providing clients with a premium product and an equally-premium experience. In pursuit of that goal, their talented team of managers and craftsmen works hard and collaborates closely and transparently with the client throughout every stage of the process, from concept and feasibility, to detailed budgeting and value engineering, all the way through to scheduling, execution and completion. That team is led by Silas Straathof, head of operations, and Drew Henderson, head of production – both of whom care deeply about bringing their clients’ visions to life. “If a client is looking for high quality and excellent value for their investment, that is what we deliver,” says Drew. “We expect our homes and our client relations to be our legacy, which sets the tone for how we operate and how we build.” Both Silas and Drew are journeyman carpenters with many years’ experience building custom homes in the Comox Valley. Silas comes from a background building high-end homes in West Vancouver, and started Facet Custom Builders after moving to Cumberland in 2013. Drew comes from a background in reforestation, and joined the company early on. He started as an apprentice but ultimately bought in and became a partner three years ago. “The company had already established a reputation as one of the top custom builders in the Comox Valley, and I was really excited to be a part of that,” Drew recalls. Today, Facet Custom Builders’ projects typically Photo: Luke Phillips at LSPPhoto DECEMBER 2025

range from major renovations to new custom homes. On the smaller side, they recently did an extensive interior renovation in Comox where they mainly focused on remodelling interior finishes to transform a fine home into the client’s dream home. On the larger side, they recently completed a 4,000-square-foot chalet on Mount Washington valued at over $2 million. No matter the size or scope of the project, Drew believes their clients choose them for the same reasons – professionalism, passion and a commitment to quality. Those values are reflected in their rate of referrals from past clients and industry partners, and this, as well as their strong reputation in the community, accounts for the vast majority of the company’s leads and success. “We strive to be quite professional and organized,” Drew says. “Right off the bat, we work hard to set expectations and earn the client’s trust. We want them to feel confident that we’re not only going to produce a high quality home, but also provide a high quality construction experience in which their needs are listened to and responded to in a professional way.” When it comes to delivering both quality work and quality service, Drew says the key is having the right team in place. “You can’t provide a good product or a good service without a good team,” he explains. “Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to have a really great team. To an extent, we’ve been lucky, but we’ve also worked really hard at it. We’ve put a lot of effort into recruiting and retaining a group Photo: Luke Phillips at LSPPhoto DECEMBER 2025
of people who are passionate about building and workmanship, and we’ve worked hard to create a culture where those people thrive. The culture at Facet Custom Builders is very important to Drew, personally. When he became a partner, he says the important goal he gave himself was to make sure that the company always remained “a really good employer.” He wanted it to be “a place where people want to work, where they’re stoked to come in every day because they know the company values them and cares for them and shows them that.” Historically, Drew says Facet Custom Builders has always been fairly successful at cultivating that atmosphere, but over the last three years they have worked harder at it than ever. He believes their hard work has paid off. Facet’s direct team includes Silas, Drew, two project managers who work in the office, a team of site supervisors, a crew of carpenters, and an office administrator who also does landscape design. On each and every project, they assign a project manager and site supervisor who coordinate with the clients, all the trades and suppliers and make sure everything is done properly – and Drew believes that’s a key element of their quality control. When it comes to subcontractors and suppliers, Facet Custom Builders consistently works with a roster of the same partners, with some relationships going back over a decade. Drew says the partners they are loyal to are the ones Photo: Luke Phillips at LSPPhoto THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
that provide a high standard of service from sales all the way through to delivery. “There are a lot of companies out there, and the quality of customer service ranges greatly,” Drew explains. “The partners we like to work with are the partners who are reliable, who communicate well, who commit to schedules – who take care of their customers, basically. When we find a partner like that, we try to hold on to them.” One example of a responsive and reliable partner would be City Tile – a BC-based company that distributes a wide selection of porcelain tile, ceramic tile, natural stone, glass, tools, materials, and accessories. They have locations in Nanaimo, Burnaby, Courtenay, Port Coquitlam, and Kelowna, and they import the best, most unique and exclusive tiles from manufacturers all over the world. Much like Facet, they are a company that takes equal pride in their products in the quality of their product and the quality of their service – their showrooms include thousands of high quality products for clients to check out in person, and their staff is highly experienced in tile installation, with knowledge constantly bolstered by trade shows and research into the latest products and trends. The team at Facet highly values their industry expertise. Photo: Luke Phillips at LSPPhoto DECEMBER 2025

Interesting and rewarding projects About a year ago, Facet Custom Builders wrapped up work on their largest project to date, which was a major renovation on a waterfront property in the Comox Valley. Drew personally worked as the project manager on that job, which came with a lot of interesting challenges, as it was located on an archaeologically sensitive site right beside the ocean. “There were a lot of challenges just in getting a plan together that could actually be built, but we didn’t just want any plan,” he explains. “It was a really unique property that warranted a special house on it. We all felt a responsibility to do something really amazing.” Ultimately, Drew says they ended up removing the upper-storey of the house and then largely re-using the foundation with some minor additions, so they didn’t have to excavate in the archeologically DECEMBER 2025

sensitive areas. They then rebuilt an upper-storey that was more accessible, better for entertaining, and took much better advantage of the property’s amazing views than the previous home. “The house that was on there was pretty old, and it was a fine house, but what was missing more than anything was a connection to the surrounding nature,” Drew explains. “It didn’t take advantage of the quite-stunning ocean views. So that was one of the major things we did – we really opened it up to that view-scape.” “The client also had a large extended family and wanted the home to be a gathering place for that family, which the existing house didn’t really allow for,” he continues. “So we added areas like a games room, and a really large inviting main kitchen area. We also added an elevator that wasn’t there originally, which will help the owners to accommodate their elderly mother and to age in place.” Moving forward, Facet Custom Builders would love to be involved in more projects of similar size and scope to that one. According to Drew, they are more interested in doing interesting projects than growing and doing more projects. “We’re in that custom home niche of the market, and we don’t really have an ambition to move out of that niche,” he explains. “We’ve really found our happy place here. As long as there’s enough interesting work in the area, we don’t necessarily want to go anywhere else or get any bigger.” “We just want to keep improving on our ability to deliver these kinds of projects for the residents of this area,” he adds. “We really want to cement our position as one of the premier custom home builders in the Valley, and we want to continue being considered for the most interesting and rewarding projects.” Photo: Kevin McKay @ True Elements Media DECEMBER 2025

Great Just Isn’t Good Enough
Priority Builders is an Edmonton-based home renovation and remodelling company dedicated to enriching the lives of their clients. On every project, they work closely with clients every step of the way, from design through to execution, making sure their vision is understood and safeguarded at every stage. By the end of the process, their mission is to provide clients with a result that exceeds all their expectations. Their success achieving that mission is reflected in the amount of repeat work they get, and the significant percentage of projects that come from referrals and word-of-mouth. “From start to finish, we want our clients to have the best possible experience and to be completely satisfied with our high quality designs and construction,” says Sean Walford, owner and general manager. “We listen to and genuinely care about our clients and their satisfaction with our work,” he elaborates. “Our in-house design team delivers impeccable designs and expertise, capturing the vision for your space. Our construction team turns that vision into reality, resulting in the home of the client’s dream and an all-around positive experience.” Prior to forming Priority Builders, Sean got started in construction while working as a property manager and power engineer, in a role that involved doing a lot of repairs and minor renovations. In that role, he says he earned a number of glowing reviews, to the point that he had clients approaching him and asking if he would be up for larger jobs, like bathrooms and basements. He started taking on that kind of work on the side and became addicted to the feeling of a job well done. DECEMBER 2025

“I really liked the experience of starting a job with a client who was a little bit nervous at first, who didn’t know how things were going to go, then by the end of the job their house was transformed and I was the hero,” Sean recalls. “Nothing else I had done professionally really compared.” In 2019, Sean decided to retire from property management and power engineering and “go all in with renovations.” He incorporated Priority Builders and the company took off, even in the midst of COVID. Sean credits that growth to a number factors. One factor is his enduring commitment to always achieving “the highest, highest quality.” “My thought process has always been that if we achieve the absolute highest quality humanly possible, there won’t be any issues,” he says. “This company has always operated with that mentality, and I think that’s a big part of it.” Additionally, Priority Builders has always prioritized social media and has taken pride in documenting their work. They posted a lot of videos and walkthroughs on Instagram; they brought an “almost HGTV-like experience to Edmonton,” which Sean says “further blew up the company.” These days, demand for Priority Builders’ services is at a high, to the point that the company has been able to grow quite substantially in terms of both employee count and yearly revenue. In terms of project size, their current work can be valued anywhere from $60,000 to $900,000, with DECEMBER 2025

As previously mentioned, the company generates a large percentage of their leads through repeat business, referrals, and word of mouth. At the same time, because the company is so active on social media, they also get a lot of clients who first saw them online. In both cases, Sean says the credit belongs to the company’s “truly amazing team.” “We spend a lot of time and energy on finding the absolute best people,” he says. “I call our team ‘The Avengers.’ They’re all absolute superheroes.” “We don’t settle,” he adds. “One of our core values is ‘Great Just Isn’t Good Enough.’ A lot of people in our industry like to say ‘it’s good enough,’ they call it ‘builder standard,’ they say ‘we just got to get this done’ – not us. We don’t do that. Everything we do has to be to the highest level.” “Everyone here internalizes that,” he continues. “If they can’t or won’t, they don’t stick around. We’re very picky about who we work with, just like we’re picky about quality, because the team is the most important thing. The team is the foundation of everything. Because we have this amazing team, we’re able to create the content that people respond to, and we’re able to have the reputation that we have.” Priority Builders’ other core values include: Genuinely Care About People; Teamwork Makes the Dream Work; Embrace an Ownership THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
Mentality; and Create Fun and a Little Weirdness. Sean elaborates on what all those values mean, starting with ‘Genuinely Care About People’. “You can’t fake actually caring about people,” he says. “You can do the song and dance, but it shows through if you don’t actually care. The people here have to genuinely, really care about people, and that shows up in their work. It shows up in the relationships they build with clients. It shows up in every aspect of the job.” ‘Teamwork Makes the Dream Work’ is obvious – every single person has to perform and work as a team, or the company won’t be able to achieve what they want to achieve. Sean says that includes subcontractors and suppliers, who he says they believe in “treating exceptionally well.” “Our goal is to treat them better than anybody else,” he says. “The feedback we get from them reflects that. They love working with us because we treat them well and they enjoy our energy.” As for ‘Embrace an Ownership Mentality’, Sean explains how, when it comes to small-to-medium businesses, there’s a popular notion that nobody works as hard as an owner, because the owner is the most invested in the business being successful. However, while he works extremely hard – he calls himself “relentless” – he expects “every single person in the company” to share his mentality. “If they don’t have that same mentality, they don’t work with us,” he reiterates. “It’s as simple as that.” The people who do have that mentality, however, DECEMBER 2025

For over 40 years we've been creating quality kitchens with beauty and functionality - see for yourself. tend to highly enjoy working with Sean and the rest of the team at Priority Builders. That’s where the last core value – Create Fun and a Little Weirdness – comes in. “We know life is too short to always take ourselves too seriously,” Sean says. “We’re a team of smart, motivated hustlers, but we also have fun. Everyone that works here has personality. We enjoy people. That’s one of the things we’re known for. That’s feedback we often get from clients. They tell me how much they enjoyed every single person who came through their job. For some reason, they don’t expect that – they expect carpenters and plumbers to be grumpy – so they’re always pleasantly surprised.” According to Sean, subcontractors and suppliers are also frequently complimentary of the “Priority energy.” “Too often in the construction and renovation world, there’s not much personality or soul on site,” Sean says. “Everything is really cutthroat and direct. We try to do something differently. We try to provide a really friendly atmosphere. We bring the energy, and that energy is infectious. The feedback we get from suppliers and subcontractors is they really enjoy that and they love working with us.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
The right people in the right places Moving forward, Sean says that Priority Builders has a lot of room for growth, and a lot of desire to grow – but achieving that growth will require finding the right team members. “The demand is definitely already there,” he says. “We have a fairly long queue of projects. We get a lot of clients who come to us and we have to tell them we won’t be available to start for eight months, or 10 months, or a year. We have a lot of clients who are willing to wait, because they know the quality they’re going to get, but we’d love to be able to reduce those wait times. We just need to make sure we have the right people in the right places first.” In the future, Sean also wants to keep taking on interesting and exciting projects. He says that Priority Builders is already fairly well known for their ability to solve challenges, and he wants to continue DECEMBER 2025

cultivating that reputation. “We love really super unique renovations. That’s one of the big reasons why we get a lot of attention—because of all the unique stuff that we do. We love when people come to us and say ‘Hey, I’ve I got this crazy idea for you and no one else wants to do it.’ We’re the contractor that’s like, ‘You know what? This is going to be a lot of work. We got to figure some stuff out, but we would freaking love to tackle this. This is going to be so much fun.’” Ultimately, Sean’s vision for Priority Builders is to become the “number one renovation company” in Edmonton. Currently, he believes they are “easily top five” and well on their way to climbing the ranks. “We’re so motivated to become the number one renovation company in the city,” he says. “Not number one in terms of volume, but number one in all the other things that matter. We want to have best team with the best culture. We want to have the most fun. We want to be an awesome place to be. And with our exceptional team, we want to provide an awesome experience, the highest level of quality, and best renovations humanly possible.” – “Now That, Definitely Gets The Thumbs Up” DECEMBER 2025

Building infrastructure and building trust
Bluepoint Construction is a full-service civil construction company based in Kelowna, British Columbia. Within the region, they are recognized as an industry leader, known for bringing collaborative, effective, and sustainable solutions to the region’s challenging projects. For the past 10-plus years, their reputation for excellence has been consistently growing, along with the size of their team and the scope of their work. Since 2018, particularly after the company’s acquisition by Meraki Resources, Bluepoint has been growing remarkably. Meraki Resources is a diversified group of companies in Western Canada that offers comprehensive, community-oriented resource management and development solutions across British Columbia and Alberta. Across all their businesses, their vision is to promote and provide benefits to their customers, partners, and communities through building meaningful, progressive relationships. From the start, Bluepoint Construction has been powered by a similar vision, which made the company a natural acquisition. The history of Meraki dates back to 1975, when founder David Hoy started a local trucking business based in Fort St. James. Over the years, that company has grown steadily in scope and size and expanded its service offering. Under the leadership of the second generation of the family they diversified across Western Canada and into new industries through strategic expansions, acquisitions, and partnerships. In 2020, they rebranded as Meraki Resources to better reflect their new expansive identity. Bluepoint Construction, meanwhile, was founded in 2014. David Clifton, Meraki Indigenous Relations Manager then called KDL Group – was looking to make an acquisition in the Kelowna area, which they saw as an “exciting growth opportunity,” according to Kevin Playfair, VP of Operations. They were drawn to Bluepoint specifically because of their reputation for taking on “technical projects” and completing them “on time, on budget, and to a high standard.” For a company like that, in an area like Kelowna, they saw a lot of potential for growth. Mathew Sherwood, a site superintendent for Bluepoint Construction, began working with the company the year before the acquisition. “We’ve always been a family-oriented company, from the start up to now,” he says, adding that the acquisition has only enhanced that foundation. “Meraki has definitely brought us opportunities,” he says. “A lot of different jobs have come from them. We’ve gotten the chance to do a lot of different things in a lot of different places.” These days, Bluepoint focuses on technically demanding civil projects, particularly in municipal infrastructure. The team’s sweet spot is projects in the $1-to-$10 million range involving civil utilities and complex site conditions – everything from dense urban environments with tight access and live traffic to deep excavations. That appetite for complexity has been part of Bluepoint’s DNA from the beginning, and remains a differentiator to this day. “We get into some pretty complex stuff,” Mathew says. “We’ve done projects where we’ve sheet piled six meters in the ground. We’ve done projects DECEMBER 2025

We’ve done some fairly large water and sewer infrastructure upgrades for municipalities. We get into a lot of technical projects – the more technical it is, the more we like it.” Recently, Bluepoint has worked closely with Indigenous partners in remote northern communities. That new focus is largely due to Meraki Resources, which has a longstanding history of building and maintaining strong and respectful relationships with Indigenous communities. In order to truly invest in furthering relationships with Indigenous partners, the Meraki team has employed a full-time dedicated ‘Indigenous Relationship Manager’, David Clifton, whose primary focus is to foster communication with Indigenous communities and bridge knowledge between the Nations and the business. “Indigenous partnerships are part of our fabric and our framework,” Kevin explains. “Coming from up north, it’s just a part of who we are. We have relationships with some Indigenous communities that go back decades. We have very strong connections in those communities that are rooted in trust, accountability, and transparency.” According to Kevin, that familiarity with Meraki and its key people is a big part of why Indigenous communities like working with them. Mathew says the same applies to Bluepoint and their clients – many of whom are also longstanding. “Bluepoint’s pretty deeply rooted in the Kelowna area, and we have a lot of connections,” he THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA

They know they can trust us to come in and get the job done properly.” Both Meraki Resources and Bluepoint Construction also foster strong relationships internally with employees. Meraki employs about 360 people overall, and Bluepoint employs about 60, and many of whom are longstanding. Kevin admits that earning that loyalty is challenging, when the work is seasonal, but he says they do their best to secure year round work to keep their core people busy and to engage staff throughout the different seasons. Kevin also says that, at Meraki, “we pay people well and we treat people well.” Mathew agrees – he describes the company as having a “family feeling,” and in his time there he says he’s “never felt like a number.” He believes that feeling goes a long way. Bluepoint’s relationships with suppliers and subcontractors are also rooted in fairness, consistency, and mutual respect. Kevin believes those relationships are another key component of the company’s prolonged success. “I think Bluepoint – like all Meraki companies – is good at being loyal and maintaining a consistent suite of subcontractors and vendors,” he explains. “We work with the same people on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to go out and see what else is out there from time to time, but we’re consistent and loyal to the people who show consistency and loyalty to us. Those values DECEMBER 2025

According to Kevin and Mathew, that project was a strong demonstration of Bluepoint’s capabilities, as well as the benefits that have come from being a part of Meraki Resources. Because of Meraki’s ties to Northern BC, Bluepoint was able to leverage decades of knowledge and relationships, along with partnering with K&D Logging, Meraki’s northern-most logging business. The scope of that project included replacing approximately 400 meters of 150-millimetre sanitary main, road-building, and specialized poly grouting of man holes to ensure water-tightness. Due to substandard soil conditions, Bluepoint was required to move a large amount of material to and from the site, which was challenging, considering the remoteness. “The community had been searching for a contractor to address their failing infrastructure for multiple years,” Kevin says. “Their remote location made it extremely challenging to find the right partner. When we connected, we embraced the opportunity to work with the community and their representatives, aligning on budget, timelines, and action items to resolve the residents’ challenges. Together, we achieved a successful outcome for everyone involved.” Meraki and Bluepoint ensured the community’s THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
support by closely involving them throughout the project. One of the first things that the Meraki and Bluepoint team did was to host a community barbecue, where the team communicated what the project involved, what was going to be happening around the community, and allowed community members to ask questions about the project. They also hired two local trainees, who ended up working with the Bluepoint team throughout the duration of the project, which furthered the economic impact of the project within the community. Ultimately, Meraki and Bluepoint delivered the project on schedule and to a high standard – “and now the community has infrastructure that works and is going to carry them through for the next 50 years,” Kevin says. “I think that’s a massive win for the community and we are grateful to have been a part of it.” Kevin partly credits their success on the project to Bluepoint’s experience and their technical background. At the same time, he also says it helped that Meraki Resources has another operating company, K&D Logging, based only 72 kilometres away, so they knew the community well. That meant they were able to get eyes on site quickly and clarify what needed to be done. Kevin believes that “local knowledge” and proven ability to operate in the area have been critical to the company’s ability to complete the work efficiently. Before that project, Mathew says that Bluepoint had done several jobs outside of the Kelowna area, but that was their first “major out-of-town project.” Now that they have proven their ability to do so, they hope to take on more major projects beyond the borders of Kelowna, including in Indigenous communities. At the same time, Kevin says they also want to keep doing work rooted in the Interior of BC. Kelowna is home to Bluepoint and the team continues to see incredible opportunities on the horizon for local-based work. Continuing the growth trajectory in Kelowna, Bluepoint Construction is proud to partner with the City of Kelowna on Phase 3 of the City Park pathway improvements, delivering infrastructure that reflects Kelowna’s vision for a more connected, resilient, and thriving community. This work is part of the City’s 10-Year Capital Plan, a strategic roadmap designed to keep pace with Kelowna’s rapid population growth. These upgrades to City Park will create more accessible pathways, revitalize the shoreline, and improve amenities, and Bluepoint is proud to be a part of it. As a result of pursuing projects like this, Kevin expects Bluepoint to grow, but never just for growth’s sake. “What’s important to us is sustainable growth,” he concludes. “We’ve been able to almost double the company in size in the time that we’ve owned it, but we’ve done that by growing the company in a measured and strategic way. We expect that to continue.” DECEMBER 2025
