It takes a whole community – and we’re a very communitybased organization.” In addition to undergoing this major renovation, the Keystone Centre is also making a major effort to raise awareness of the centre and how important it is to the region. That’s been a major focus of Connie’s ever since she was promoted to her current role last year. “We’re trying to get our name and what we represent out there a bit more,” she says. “I think people around here know about us, but they don’t quite realize our importance – not just our importance to Brandon, but to the whole Westman region.” Hosting over 2,800 event days and welcoming 1.8 million visitors annually, the Keystone Centre contributes significantly to the local economy. Last year, the centre conducted an economic impact study on just six of their events, and found those six events alone generated roughly $80 million for the city of Brandon. Moving forward, Connie and her team plan to conduct more of those studies, and they plan to make a greater effort to bring those results to the attention of the community. “Our goal is to change the face of the Keystone Centre,” Connie reiterates. “We’re getting out into the community more.
