he says were “grossly outdated.” “We had not entered the 21st century,” he recalls. “I kept saying during my election ‘Would you build your house on a broken foundation?’ No, you wouldn’t. With those updated practices in place, the town is now finalizing a long-term asset management plan that encompasses the next five-to-10 years. Mayor Bélanger strongly believes in the value of having that kind of long-term outlook: “I believe it’s important that we have a five-to-10 year plan so that we know what our objectives are, so we can categorize them, rank them in terms of importance,” he explains. “I think that’s going to help us stay focused. It doesn’t mean we can’t change our objectives, but at least we have a Bible, we have a book, we have got something that tells us where we want to go.” A significant part of Mattawa’s planned transformation is the ongoing redevelopment of the Dorion Road Hill, which is being supported by nearly $4.5 million in funding from the Investing Canada Infrastructure Program. That project involves the reconstruction of 410 meters of Dorion Road, located southbound from Highway 17. Work includes widening the road, slope reduction, new streetlights and improved drainage. The telephone poles will also be replaced. 12 International Drive Pembroke, Ontario K8A 6W5 www.jp2g.com THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
