The Construction Source

With roots stretching back to 1921, HESCO has established itself as a cornerstone of commercial kitchen design, supply, and construction across Western Canada. From a modest equipment dealer in Edmonton, the company has evolved into a dynamic $40 million enterprise with offices in Edmonton, Calgary, and a new location set to open in Toronto this fall. This remarkable transformation has been guided by the vision and leadership of Larry and Adam Ungarian, who acquired HESCO in 2006. Their progressive approach has reshaped the company’s culture and operations, shifting it from a small-town supplier into a full-service, client-focused kitchen partner. Bryan Connell, vice president of construction and design, joined the company in 2013 and has witnessed much of the company’s evolution firsthand “Larry and Adam were already in the industry working for a difference company, they saw an opportunity to buy HESCO, and they decided to take a chance on it,” Bryan says. “They wanted to do things differently – more modern, more service-oriented, and more progressive.” Bryan’s own journey with HESCO began through a personal connection. “I knew the Ungarians through my father,” he recalls. After several years working at a competitor, Bryan was invited to join HESCO in early 2013. Later that year, he became a partner and was tasked with opening the Calgary branch the following spring. “Starting from scratch in Calgary was a big move, but it was part of our plan for managed growth,” he says. These days, in all their areas of operations, what sets HESCO apart is their full-service model. The company designs commercial kitchen spaces, AUGUST 2025
