TD2’s team have been active in refinery turnarounds for the past six years and is continuing to add value and digital tools to the teams they serve. Once the plants are digitized, the use cases are seemingly endless, whether it is a process to intake progress data and dashboard it for monitor and control reports, planned and unplanned work reports and strategies, or providing visual resource loaded simulations and schedule integrations for planning. Each year we bring new BIM tools to solve complex problems that are not “off the shelf” software solutions, but customized tools for the specific needs of each client. As an example of that kind of in-house innovation, Tracey points to their forthcoming platform called TA-REX, which will bring dashboard-integrated insights to complex industrial turnarounds, and enable “a leap forward for plant operations and capital asset planning.” As another example of their innovative streak, Tracey says they have recently created multiple “digital twins” of existing buildings. In collaboration with university researchers, they are tracking realtime building performance – lighting, ventilation, occupancy – to optimize operations “With 30 per cent of global carbon emissions tied to existing buildings, the potential for impact is enormous,” Tracey says. “Smart buildings aren’t the future – they’re the now, and we’re helping make them accessible.” “It may seem a little futuristic to some, but creating a digital version of your built asset is not as difficult as you think,” he adds. Tracey says the use cases for a digital twin are “staggering,” with the immediate and most compelling uses being facility management, energy management, safety management, space planning, risk management, planning and budgeting, maintenance contract communication, asset management, shutdown planning, and emergency response planning – and the list goes on. “We also take a pragmatic approach to ownership – not vendor lock-ins, not perpetually recurring and expanding license fees. We build tools that clients can own and use on their terms with the typical software suite.” Territorial Electric Ltd. has powered Alberta for over 40 years with trusted commercial, institutional, and service electrical solutions.
