Recently, TD2 Group has also taken the project management role on the University of Alberta’s Butterdome renovation. According to Tracey, that project also underscores how digital tools can reshape project preparation, improve workflow efficiency and building information utilization. “Before our design teams even entered the picture, we deployed Multivista for LiDAR scanning and Prevu3D for photogrammetry to provide the accurate dataset for our modelers to create a precise REVIT model – structural and architectural – of the existing building,” he explains. “This proactive strategy will pay early dividends, shortening design timelines, reducing preconstruction investment costs, and enabling data driven decisions, by maximizing preparation prior to onboarding the teams. It’s Lean methodology meets cutting-edge technology – a pairing we believe defines the future of project delivery.” Also at the University of Alberta, TD2 Group was tasked to partner with the U of A’s Project Management Office, in revitalizing the First Peoples House – which is a space where First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students can find community, cultural connection, and holistic support. On that project, Tracey says TD2’s role was “both technical and transformative,” as they served as both “BIM strategist and BIM manager.” The goal of that project was to “reimagine an existing campus building,” Tracey says – their mission was to strip the building to its “structural core” before outfitting it with a highly efficient envelope and building systems. Once demolition and abatement were complete, TD2 deployed surveyors to establish controls for their model. Bird Construction – the construction manager on the project – conducted LiDAR scans to capture structural details and slab variations. This set the stage for the prime consultant, Reimagine Architects, to move forward from their schematic designs with geometric certainty. For the REVIT model creation required for design development, Reimagine leveraged their Bucharest, Hungary office, assigning two seasoned REVIT experts. Their expertise allowed for the creation of an extensive BIM Execution Plan and an accurate model – a process facilitated by “intercontinental collaboration,” Tracey says, “with workdays perfectly staggered to ensure direct communication through videoconferencing.” Tracey also credits Williams Engineering, the MEP consultant, as being “an equally vital partner.” AUGUST 2025
