JPH Consulting is an award-winning project management firm based in Saskatchewan. Since forming over a decade ago, they have been involved in some of the province’s largest construction projects, particularly in the institutional sector. Over the last few years, the firm has grown rapidly, adding staff members and diversifying their project output. They plan to continue that growth streak, but they never plan to grow too large. According to James Holtom, founder and president, the firm’s limited size and independence plays too important a role in their success to risk compromising. “The biggest thing that I think sets us apart is that we are not profit-driven,” James says. “We’re not owned by a large corporation that forces us to drive profitability. We have a small ownership team and we can give ourselves our own mandate – and that mandate is to give our clients the best project possible. Profitability is not the be-all endall.” “We don’t sacrifice the quality of our services just to try and save a buck and ensure we make a certain threshold of fee,” he elaborates. “That’s not a concern that we burden the people delivering the project with. We measure our success on the client’s happiness. If our clients are not satisfied at the end of the day with our services, that’s what determines that a project is a failure.” James comes from a varied career in the construction industry. He has a background in electrical engineering, and he started his career working for a local electrical engineering firm, where he spent five years. He then worked for several years at SaskPower, where he earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Around 2013 he started working for APRIL 2025
