Earlier this year, on Valentine’s Day, they had fat biking and cross country skiing events that were available for anyone to come and try. “We have all kinds of stuff going on like that every couple of months,” Greg says. “We’re trying to do things and engage the community.” Moving forward, Greg says the goal is to welcome new residents to Southwood Circle by 2027. In the meantime, they are hard at work on projects including: trail-building; boulevard construction, planting, and landscaping; stormwater pond construction; riverbank reforestation; and sidewalks and streetlight construction. Greg reports they are progressing nicely on all fronts: limestone trails and pathways are now open to the public, streetlights will be installed and fully energized by the end of May; topsoil seeding and wetland planting will be completed by Ducks Unlimited by the end of June; sidewalks will be completed by mid-July; and boulevard construction, including the planting of native plants and grasses to promote pollination, will be completed by early August. “It’s an exciting time,” Greg concludes. “We’re making great progress and we’re excited to deliver something special. We’re excited to grow and transform the University of Manitoba campus into a world-leading ‘UniverCity.’”
