APRIL 2025 relationship with everyone involved.” In general, Facundo says, Architectural Instinct tends to build strong relationships with other industry stakeholders, just as they do with their clients. When it comes to builders, the firm likes to bring them on early in the process to “incorporate their input, allowing for a cohesive design to construction process.” “We have a great list of contractors we enjoy working with,” he says. “They also like working with us. We become a team.” One contractor on that “great list” would be Maxwell Contracting and Development – a Toronto-based residential construction firm run by Jake Williams. Jake is a genuine lover of fine architecture and his company relishes the opportunity to build sophisticated, elevated spaces. The mutual respect between the team at Architectural Instinct and the team at Maxwell Contracting helps to make every project they collaborate on a success. Moving forward, in collaboration with their talented and dedicated partners, Architectural Instinct aims to continue growing at a slow and steady pace. As mentioned earlier, Kieran’s has never intended for the firm to become too large, and he always intends for the principals to remain personally involved on every project. “We’re open to growth, but we want it to be very steady growth, very controlled growth,” he reiterates. “I’ve seen so many companies grow exponentially to just shrink afterwards. And I think that happens because the core values that allowed them to grow in the first place get jeopardized by that growth. So we’re going to allow natural growth to happen, but only as long as the distinguishing elements that have brought us success this far remain in place.” “That doesn’t mean that we can’t grow,” he adds. “It means we can only grow if we have a team that’s aligned with us, that brings the same mindset to the table. If we don’t have the right people, we would not want to grow.” “Right now there are four of us in the office, and the four of us are very much aligned,” he concludes. “If we can find more people with similar mindsets, we would be open to growing. If we can’t, we would stay where we are. We’re not going to grow and jeopardize what we have.”
