Architectural Instinct is a Toronto-based architectural firm known for taking on a wide range of projects, from residential new builds and retrofits, to mid-rise buildings as tall as 10-storeys, to commercial projects and tenant fit-outs. Since forming in 2018, they have grown slowly but steadily on the back of word of mouth and referrals. According to Kieran Randall, founding partner of the firm, “clients are our main sales and promotion engines” – and they have kept those engines running by communicating clearly, and by delivering design solutions that meet the specific needs and expectations of their clients. “We enjoy the ritual of transforming space, defining architectural challenges and seizing site opportunities,” Kieran says. “We strive daily to further improve our practice and customer experience.” “Our ambition is to create spaces to fit our customer’s desires with a simple, elegant, and pragmatic approach,” adds Facundo Varela, a partner in the firm since close to the beginning. “We are concerned in designing an environment that, in time, grows and connects with its inhabitants. Both Kieran and Facundo started their careers in Argentina, where they actually studied together in the same university. After about four years of working in the architectural field in Canada, Kieran formed Architectural Instinct with the goal of growing into a small-sized firm – “I wouldn’t say boutique,” he says, “but small enough to ensure us partners are involved in all projects,” because he believes that’s the key to quality control. From the start, Architectural Instinct has taken on a wide variety of projects, and they continue to pursue that variety today. In terms of residential, APRIL 2025
