APRIL 2025 “We’re planning to grow in other areas and ensure we have a nice diverse portfolio of projects, but we’re not going to forget where we came from,” James says. “Education and health care will be our core project types for the foreseeable future, but we’re also interested in looking at other sectors where we can make an impact.” In terms of the size of the firm, James reiterates that he never wants to be a massive company. Again, he says, “we’re not part of a major corporation, we have no national chain or other offices to feed into – and that means we have a lot of freedom to make our own decisions.” James does see some more potential for growth, however. As previously mentioned, the company has grown from one employee to 11 employees in just a few years, and James sees them getting up to the “20-employee range” in the near future. He has recently come to understand the value in adding employees with different experiences and perspectives, and he wants to keep doing that. “Early on, it was just me and a few people,” James says. “Adding more people to the company over the past few years has actually proven very valuable. Our newer employees have been able to provide a lot of great ideas – ideas that I never would have thought of. Now we want to ensure that with each new hire, they’re bringing a different skill set.” “For example, our most recent hire, she was a risk management professional,” he adds. “She had a totally different experience set than anybody else we had. That adds value to our current projects and just offers new possibilities for the future. That gives us more depth all around. So we’re going to keep adding depth. We’re going to keep growing in different areas and sectors. I think that will probably double in size in the next few years.”
