Dennis’ Dirtworx Ltd. is an industry-leading excavation company serving southern Alberta. Since forming 15 years ago, they have grown from one person with a mini-hoe to a team of over 200 dedicated employees with a fleet of roughly 500 pieces of equipment, including excavators, dozers, trucks, rock trucks, scrapers, graders, and packers. Over the course of their growth, they have successfully completed well over 2,000 projects in their region, and in the process, they have earned a reputation for providing “the highest level of quality service while maintaining an efficient and safe work environment,” according to founder and owner Dennis Overweg. Prior to starting his own company, Dennis was working for another local excavation company. His long-term goal was always to make it out on his own, but he didn’t know when he was going to do that until he attended an auction with his father in 2009. “There was a mini-hoe there,” he recalls. “I put a bid in, figuring ‘what the hell, I’ll give it a shot’ and I ended up winning it. I worked for my previous employer for three more days after that.” “The calls just started coming in,” Dennis says, and from there Dennis’ Dirtworx grew at a rapid pace. Today, Dennis’ Dirtworx’s in-house team of experts includes – but is not limited to – general manager Robbin Overweg; project managers Pete Jones, Marcus Pidborochynski, Maurice Driesse, and James Van Braak; estimator and project director Glen Clarke; senior designer Dan Dyck. Project-wise, Dennis’ Dirtworx now takes on a wide range of agricultural, commercial, and industrial contracts. On the agricultural side, they do everything from world-class feedlots, to large irrigation ponds, to custom drainage solutions. Commercially, they have worked on a variety of projects from small commercial buildings to prep APRIL 2024
