he believes, is the access they get to himself and David as the company leaders. “They like the fact that David and I are in the office. If they have problems, they like that they can talk to the owners. They can get answers right away. They don’t have to jump through any hoops or wade through any bureaucracy. They have a direct line to the people who make the decisions.” A lot of their clients, he adds, are very longstanding, and their relationships have become personal: “We’ve been in his business for such a long time,” he explains. “We have a lot of clients who used to deal directly with our dad and our uncle, and now they deal directly with us. They feel personally attached to the business and the service they get. I think that goes a long way.” Within the residential sector in Manitoba, in particular, D&L has built some very longlasting relationships with clients. Some of those relationships actually go back over 40 years. In some cases, those relationships are multigenerational. David and Alex further credit that loyalty to D&L’s track record of high quality, which comes with a price: “We don’t skimp on the products we make,” Alex says simply. “We don’t nickel and dime when it comes to our raw materials. We don’t cut corners to try to save money in areas where doing that might compromise quality. We pay what it takes to get the best, and unfortunately we need to pass that cost on to our customers, but our customers know they are getting the very best product they can for their dollar.” “That goes for the labourers who assemble the product, too,” David adds. “We pay above the standard wage in order to maintain a quality staff and a quality work environment as a whole. That reflects on the quality of the product.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
