The Construction Source

“If we’re too small for a job, we bring in the equipment and the guys to make it happen,” Dennis explains. “We grow as the demand comes through the door. That’s what we’re going to keep doing.” Growing that way can be a challenge, Dennis admits, because it’s not always easy to find the right people when you need them – but he believes that maybe it’s easier for Dennis’ Dirtworx then some other companies, because “once you have a group of great people, I believe more great people will find you.” “To quote ‘Field of Dreams,’ if you build it, they will come,” says Glen. “We do have great people,” he adds, “and we’re always looking for more. So send your résumés.” Lastly, as the company grows, Dan says Dennis’ Dirtworx will continue to embrace new technology. He says a lot of construction companies are reluctant to try new things, preferring instead to stick with what they know, but Dennis’ Dirtworx isn’t among their number. Dan says “we’re not afraid to innovate.” “We’re moving forward with new technology that’s cutting edge. We’re not afraid to go there. About five years ago, we stepped into using GPS in a serious way, and ever since then we’ve been growing in that zone. We’re going to continue expanding that team. We’re now using drone technology. We’re looking into groundpenetrating radar. We’re looking at how to scan farmers’ fields so we can tell them where their crop is growing best and where they need to fertilize better.” “There are all kinds of technologies we can use, and we’re looking at it all,” Dan concludes. “We’ve barely started scratching the surface. There’s a lot we already do really well right now, but we want to be able to do it even better. Technology is going to make us more of the company that people want us to be.” APRIL 2024
