The Construction Source

“At Up to Kode, we fully understand every element of construction,” Kody says. “We put just as much effort into the structure as we do the finishing, all while exceeding common building practices. We take a typically ‘stressful’ industry, we throw in a tonne of knowledge, skill, experience, total compassion, consideration for the future, and care for the environment, and we give our clients a complete construction service.” Kody started Up to Kode in 2007, the moment he had his journeyman carpenter ticket in hand. His brother Rudy joined at the beginning, and a year-and-a-half later so did his younger brother Mathew. They maintained a small threeto-four-man crew until early 2014, when a couple more carpenters – Mike Rietmann and Luke Tyndall – joined the company and they began taking on larger commercial renovations and full ICF houses. In the years since, the company has maintained the same core team, and together they have built a reputation for providing customers with a high level of service and superior product. Early in the company’s life, Kody and his brothers attended a course on insulated concrete forms (ICFs) hosted by Logix. They quickly saw it as the future of the industry: “As soon as we took that course, we thought ‘Well, if we’re going to build anything, we might as well stay ahead of the curve,’” Kody says. “Not that it’s even that innovative – to everyone’s mind it seems like some giant leap in construction, but for us it’s actually a lot simpler way of building.” ICF is a method of construction MAY 2023
