on a variety of exciting projects, including: a fire restoration near York University, where they renovated over 60 per cent of the structure; a project in Trenton where they worked on a 140-year-old 10-plex; and the renovation of an over 170-year-old heritage house in Bolton, where they added a whole second floor. That last project was actually Peter and Stephanie’s own home and they learned a lot completing it. These days, Hammer & Castle continues to take on a wide range of projects, and in most cases they believe that clients choose them for the same reason – namely, they trust them. “We build really strong relationships with our clients,” Stephanie says. “We’re not a big company. It’s just us here. The client isn’t dealing with a bunch of different people at every step of the process – they are dealing with me and Peter every step of the way. That allows us to build really strong bonds.” In addition, clients tend to appreciate that Peter and Stephanie are a husbandand-wife team – many of their clients are also married couples, so they can relate to them pretty strongly. Also, they both bring their own strengths to their roles – Stephanie has a keen eye for design and is very customer-focused, while Peter has over a decade of experience in construction and describes himself as “obsessive about details.” Furthermore, Peter and Stephanie have a policy of being as “up-front as we can,” Peter says.
