“Our long term goal is to encourage some more meaningful change at the design and build level,” he continues. “Right now we’re the guys that come in and fix what’s already been built. We’d rather head it off at the beginning and start providing brand new spaces that are accessible and universal.” In the nearer-term, meanwhile, Shift is interested in doing more of what they are already doing, and doing it in more places. Currently, their projects largely take place within an hour-and-a-half of Calgary, but they do have one upcoming project in the British Columbia Interior, and they are “very interested” in doing work in other cities, including Edmonton. “We certainly want to grow and we definitely have room to grow,” Griffin concludes. “We’re trying to do it in a reasonable fashion and not in an out-of-control way, but the opportunity is definitely there and I think the future is really bright.” AUGUST 2023
