Today, Seagate is well known among commercial clients for their reliability, especially when it comes to quality. Their relatively small size enables their management team to be hands-on. Not only do they deploy highly-trained superintendents at every site, co-owners John Fredericks and Steve Harris are personally involved in every project, and they personally form close-knit relationships with their clients. In 2018, John and Steve purchased the company after the previous owners were looking to retire. Both had been with the business for a long time, and when it came time to take a step back the previous owners saw them as ideal successors. Over the years, Seagate Construction has come a long way. From small beginnings to doing multi-million dollar jobs regularly, a lot has happened in the last 17 years. In 2010, they began to bid competitively on a mix of private and public tenders. This was a big change for the firm as they moved into a more ruthless environment, withoJohnodescribingcompetitive tendering as “dog eat dog.” During this period of growth, Steve came on board as another project manager. He quickly established himself as a major component of the company. In 2018, the directors at the time decided it was time to step away from the company and retire. This led to a deal being struck with John and Steve, who had ambitious goals to take the business to the next level. Four years later, John states they are “meeting and exceeding expectations.” Nowadays, Seagate focuses on smaller jobs, which they deem to be jobs priced between OCTOBER 2022
