every time. As evidence of that consistency, Pedro cites the fact that Sunset Homes has received “many awards over the years.” For example, at the Top Choice Awards – which are awarded to companies based on the survey results of their customers – they were awarded ‘Best Builder’ in the Calgary Region in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Also, at the BILD Awards, Sunset Homes was a finalist for ‘Best Custom Home’ in the Calgary Region for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021. The BILD Calgary Region Awards – formerly the SAM Awards – celebrate the most creative and professional work in the Calgary home building industry. These awards were created by the Calgary Home Builders Association more than 30 years ago and were initiated to recognize quality products and accomplishments among builders. Today, they celebrate a variety of industry accomplishments including new home design in established areas and new communities, multifamily projects, design innovation, suppliers, renovation projects, and more. Pedro is particularly excited about the acclaim from BILD because of how well respected the awards, and because he knows the calibre of their competition in his category. He says he and his team “are so thankful for all of the support and recognition.” Pedro is also quick to share the credit for the recognition – he says it wouldn’t be possible without the team at Sunset Homes, including both their direct teamof project managers and supervisors, as well as their roster of subcontractors and suppliers. According to Pedro, many of those relationships go back over 10 years. “Strong partnerships with our suppliers areessential toensure the success of our customhome builds,” he acknowledges. “We work with many great suppliers on a daily basis. Building and maintaining relationships with our subcontractors improves job performance and increases the likelihood of projects being delivered on time and within budget.” “We’ve had a few additions over the last two or three years,” he says, “but for us to add a trade to our roster, it takes a while. We’re very selective. We’re looking for a very high quality of workmanship, and that can be hard to find sometimes.” Internally, meanwhile, Pedro says the corporate culture at Sunset “promotes teamwork and ownership.” “At Sunset Homes, we value open communication with each other,” he explains. “When a problem is presented to the team we put our strengths together and come up with a solution. Giving employees the opportunity to voice their opinions and ideas makes for a strong corporate culture. We also promote growth, it is important to invest in continuous knowledge and improvement.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
