commercial jobs and high-end custom homes. “We started out wanting to focus on light industrial and commercial work, but then an opportunity came along with the Squamish Nation,” Sean recalls. “They wanted us to start wiring residential for them, which included doing 43 custom floating homes here in North Vancouver. We couldn’t pass up that opportunity.” That 43-home project earned TCA Electric a lot of attention, Sean adds, because of how unique and challenging it was. He says their work there made a lot of custom home builders take notice. “It was literally streets on water. We were wiring the houses through the docks. We were putting in heat trace cables to melt the snow, so if it was snowing people could still walk on the docks. We had to upgrade the full power system coming into the whole marina. It was quite a big project.” “The fun part about it was that it involved light industrial, commercial, and residential elements, all wrapped into one huge project that took over 10 years to do.” As a result of their exemplary work on that project, TCA’s reputation “took off,” and the company started getting work from clients in all sectors, especially the residential. These days, Sean estimates their workload is about 65 per cent residential and 35 per cent commercial.
