+ Entertainment District (The C+E) – which they envision as “Calgary’s next great city neighborhood,” “the next chapter in downtown life,” and “an engine of development and tourism in a dynamic and evolving city.” The Culture + Entertainment District is nestled on 286 acres of Calgary’s downtown eastside in east Victoria Park, and is anchored by two of the city’s most beloved attractions, the CalgaryStampedeandtheNHL’s Calgary Flames. It is surrounded by a variety of neighborhoods both established and emerging, and features quick access to Ramsay, the Beltline, and East Village. It’s also within walking distance of the amenities of Inglewood and 17th Avenue SW, while a cycle track and LRT line provide connections to Calgary’s commercial core. “This ideal location is one of the many characteristics that make The C+E the next great city neighborhood,” Clare says. CMLC’s vision for The C+E is to turn the area into a vibrant, mixed-use community. They also want to enhance the area’s existing reputation as a hub of arts, sports, and business. To achieve those goals, they will offer an expanded BMO Convention Centre, a redeveloped Stampede Trail, a revitalized LRT station, and new hotels, restaurants, and retail. According to Clare, there will be four million square feet of residential, office and commercial development, and urban living for 8,000 new residents – all in a “safe, walkable area that’s easily accessible from everywhere.” “Best of all, the district will be Calgary’s gathering place and destination, a neighbourhood of belonging and celebration for all,” Clare says.
