As for the kind of jobs they want to choose, Ryan says they want to keep pursuing custom homes – he says that sector, in particular, is “very rewarding.” “You get to work closely with the homeowner and the architect to really bring their vision to life,” he explains. “We really enjoy that.” As one example of that kind of enjoyable work, Ryan points to their recent project on Beach Drive, a high-end custom home they are building for a repeat client. As an apprentice in 2005, Ryan was actually on the team that helped build their first home, which was even bigger. “That was the start of a really great relationship,” Ryan recalls. “After we did that first home, we ended up doing a couple more little projects for that client. We built him a little garage downtown, for example.” With this latest project, the client and his wife are downsizing. They worked with a high-end architect from Vancouver to design a home that has a smaller footprint but that still meets all their lifestyle wants and needs. “Everything in it is just the highest quality,” Ryan explains. “The electrical systems and the mechanical systems are top-notch. The siding is this no-maintenance aluminum cladding. There’s in-floor heating. There’s airconditioning. The list goes on.” “It’s neat to be part of a project as high-end as this one,” Ryan adds, “and it’s fun to work with a client like this one, who just wants the best of everything.” Again, Ryan has worked with that client on multiple projects, going back to his first year with the company. He credits the strength of that relationship THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
