for our prime consultants to lead that charge.” “We wanted them to be very familiar and comfortable with the process,” she says, “and Group2 was.” A lot of the same applies to Chandos Construction, their general contractor. They had similarly developed a proven track record of delivering public sector projects – including pool facilities – and they were similarly familiar with the IPD model. “Chandos was one of the first contractors to bring the IPD model over to Canada from the States,” says Dan Overmars, a Project Manager with the company. “It’s something we pride ourselves in. We have an extensive amount of experience in it and we’re always trying to push it forward.” In addition, Chandos Construction already had a strong relationship with the Town of Drayton Valley. Not long ago, they had successfully delivered the Drayton Valley Raw Water Pump Station. On that project they were also part of an IPD team. WSP, meanwhile, was brought on board to handle the electrical engineering for the project. They had also worked on multiple IPD teams previously, and they were more than happy to do it again on this project. According to Arshia Ahmed, Electrical Engineer, the IPD process is “always interesting.” “Regardless of the type of project that you’re working on, there are always going to be challenges – the IPD process just makes it a lot easier to resolve those challenges,” she explains. “When we’re building public facilities especially, there’s always a lot of input from multiple users. The IPD process makes it easy for all those stakeholders to work together and find solutions that suit everybody involved.” Michael Henderson is a Project Manager with Priority Mechanical, the mechanical contractor on the Drayton Valley Brazeau Aquatic Centre. He echoes the same sentiment: “The IPD process is a lot more collaborative than other types of project delivery methods,” he says. “We’ve worked with Chandos in the past on other IPDs and they have been very successful. We were excited to get involved in another one of them.” DRAYTON VALLEY BRAZEAU AQUATIC CENTRE
