Pauly Kleinsasser is the General Manager of Springfield Woodworking, and was there when it started in 1999. He and his uncle, Ruben Kleinsasser, founded the company together. They started by building bedroom furniture, but progressed to kitchens when a neighbour approached them and asked them to do his. “We had never built a kitchen before, but he said ‘I’ll be your first one,’” Pauly recalls. “So we did it, and it turned out very well. His faith in us was rewarded.” From there, Springfield Woodworking built a second kitchen – a showroom – and started advertising their new service in the local newspapers. Adoption was initially slow, but picked up considerably after the company started attending the Winnipeg Kitchen bath and Renovation Show. “It just exploded from there,” Pauly says, “and we’ve never looked back.” Initially, the company was just Pauly and his uncle, but they soon had too much business to handle by themselves. Roughly 18 years ago they hired their first employee – who’s still with the company today. They now have 80 employees, many of them FEBRUARY 2021 “Springfield Woodworking also believes that it’s important to be responsive. If there’s ever a problem with one of their products, they prefer to get out there and correct it right away, rather than wasting time with recriminations or assigning blame.”
