“Our company has been doing this for a long time, and we believe we’ve gotten better every year,” says Abraham Klassen, owner. “We don’t believe in resting on our laurels. We believe in hard work and continuous improvement.” Abraham has personally been with VHL Construction since 2004, when he first joined as an apprentice. In 2008, he was “greatly honoured” when he was invited to become an owner, and he jumped at the chance. Since then, he has overseen an era of dramatic growth. Over the last 12 years, the company has almost tripled in size, while greatly expanding their capabilities. Six years ago, for example, VHL Construction formed a roofing division, which has enabled the company to deliver projects much faster. Six years in a row, that division has beat the previous year’s record in sales, and Abraham believes that “when doors open, you walk towards them.” Also around six years, the company started providing maintenance services to food processing plants. That has also been an area of consistent growth for the company. “I’m excited when new opportunities come,” Abraham explains. “I don’t do things carelessly, but I’m open to taking some risk.
